Sally O'Donnell
Sally has an extensive and varied background that has seen her evolve her understanding of people, behaviours, abuse, and trauma over more than two decades. For over a decade Sally took on challenging roles within criminal justice including being a prison officer and working within the youth offending service, probation and drug and alcohol field as well as a prison resettlement role which all provided valuable insights into the complexity of criminal behaviours and links to past trauma. She developed this experience within the housing sector managing homeless hostels for young people and working the housing charity Shelter.
Having seen firsthand the effect that abuse has on children, Sally went on to spend seven years with the NSPCC honing her safeguarding knowledge. Whilst undertaking this role, she also volunteered as a welfare officer at her children’s grassroots sports club. Being aware of the abuse that has come to light in recent years within the sports sector, she was keen to further her knowledge and understanding and see where she could make an impact. She went on to take on strategic, operational and safeguarding training roles regionally, within a national governing body and a professional football club.
While working operationally on these roles, Sally has also provided training and consultancy across these sectors and has relished the challenge of making positive change. Her portfolio of experience in supporting organisations extends through a wide range including regional and national charities, housing associations, professional sports clubs, county councils, national government, social work, criminal justice organisations, drug and alcohol organisations. She is dedicated to creating impactful solutions that address the unique needs of each organisation she works with, ensuring that her training and support have a lasting impact on their operations. Sally’s passion for positive change is evident in her ability to connect with diverse groups and adapt her approach to meet their goals and challenges.
She has gained numerous qualifications over that time including a BA(hons) in Criminology, a Post Graduate Diploma in Law and various professional and vocational qualifications in leadership and management, youth justice, probation practice, youth work and education and training.
As well as organisational safeguarding, Sally has a love of live events, and has completed a Level 4 qualification in Spectator Safety Management, and has experience as both a safety officer and a safeguarding officer at stadia and events.
Sally made the training enjoyable and interesting - by far the best safeguarding training I've ever received which made a difference to how much information I was able to digest!”
